Nearly half of all families with young children struggle to afford enough diapers. This is called diaper need—and it often means parents are forced to make impossible choices between basic necessities.
At the Short Years Diaper Bank, we provide monthly supplemental diapers to help ease that burden. We serve families in Dallas, Jasper, Warren, Marion, and Madison counties through our Parents as Teachers program, and also support the broader community in Warren, Madison, and Marion counties.
But our work is about more than diapers. It’s about reducing stress, supporting parents, and giving children the opportunity to stay healthy, learn, and thrive—so families can focus less on getting by and more on what matters most.
Why a Diaper Bank?
Babies can require up to 12 diapers a day to stay clean, dry, and healthy. Yet, nearly half of all U.S. parents report they cannot afford an adequate supply for their children, this is known as diaper need. Diaper Banks are stepping up to meet this essential community need. Consider these stats:
-
$100: The monthly cost of disposable diapers per child.
-
1-in-4: The number of parents who report having to miss work or school because they did not have enough diapers to drop their child off at childcare, resulting in an average of 5.1 missed workdays in the past 30 days.
-
This translates to a loss of $296/month for a parent earning the federal minimum wage.
-
-
50: The average number of diapers families report that they lack each month.
-
Zero: The number of federal programs that provide assistance with diapers.
Basic needs aren't just basic; they're essential. At Short Years Diaper Bank, we help ease the burden by providing 50 supplemental diapers per child each month to eligible families. With your support, we can relieve some of the stress parents face and help make sure babies in our community stay clean, dry, and healthy.
